Joel previously worked for "The Pit: Authentic Barbecue" restaurants where he was the Head Pitmaster who oversaw all food production for both restaurants as well as Empire Eats Catering for Barbecue events. During this decade long experience he learned how best to produce thousands of pounds of protein for a single event, but more importantly how to prevent a grill from breaking down when exposed to heat, grease, weather, and time. Years and years of research and testing different components/features and learning what works best and what does not work well are the backbone of Original Grills. Every component of an Original Grill has been hand selected to provide future Cooks with equipment built to last and work as intended, built to be efficient and safe, and built to cook unique and delicious food.A sampling of events Joel led were a private party on JFK's Presidential Yacht the "Honey Fitz", Joyce Farms Pig Pickin' Tours, Annual NC ‘Cuegrass Festival, The Farm Aid Festival - Backstage VIP, NCSU Football games, hundreds of Weddings and Corporate events, and representing North Carolina (one of six States invited) at a major BBQ event on Pennsylvania avenue, in Washington D.C.
Pete is deeply passionate for everything related to Grills & Barbecue. For the past three decades most of his free time has been spent over his backyard grills, behind his tailgate vehicle with his dueling custom double keg grills, or slow cooking a whole hog on a full-size pig cooker over a bed of live coals. He is the definition of a "grilling junkie". Pete has been Joel's go-to Pitmaster when he needed a savvy and experienced set of hands to join him for his large or important events. Additionally, Pete is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to NC Barbecue and regional Barbecue around the U.S. He has visited more BBQ joints in North and South Carolina than the Bible has Psalms. His love for barbecue started early when he founded a high school BBQ club, and it's grown and grown ever since...
Katie George has an extraordinary passion for food. Katie started as a pastry chef over a decade ago. She creates unique pastries, desserts, and cakes for restaurants, weddings, and other events. While she specializes in all desserts and wedding cakes, her love of cooking enlivens all her menu items. She has the talent to work anywhere, but she prefers having direct contact with her customers and making their days and events truly memorable. Katie is thankful for being able to make a living doing what she loves. Cooking and spending time with her daughter are her passions in life. She looks forward to sharing her talents with you and your guests.
Joel and his crew offered nothing but the highest level of service and quality for our series of 4 events in October 2018. The taste, quality, and presentation of the food provided a memorable meal that we will not soon forget. OG took care of all the details, big and small, so that we could relax, focus on entertaining our guests, and enjoy the events. We will use OG Catering again and will recommend OG whenever possible.
